Subtank Mini

Hey everybody, if you've been eyeballing the SubTank Mini lately, let me be the first to tell you....pick it up. It's definitely a welcomed improvement over the original, bulkier model, and a great way to stay vaping on the go.

Let's break it down with some specifications, what's in the box, that sort of thing.

Features:
  • Dimensions: 2-1/8"L x 7/8"D(without drip tip)
  • 22mm Diameter
  • RBA Coil with PEEK Insulator
  • Glass Tank
  • Base hardware: 304 stainless steel
  • New adjustable airflow control for superior airflow
  • Mini RBA Base allows you to build your own coils
  • 510 Drip tip compatible
This Tank Includes:
  • 1 x Mini SUBTANK
  • 1 x OCC: 0.5 Sub Ohm / Range 15 - 30 W
  • 1 x OCC: 1.2 Ohm / Range 12 - 25 W
  • 1 x RBA Coil (Organic Cotton made in Japan)
  • 1 x Three Piece RBA Unit
  • 3 x Replacement O-rings
  • 1 x Screw Driver
  • 2 X Screws
  • 1 x Manual
  • 1 x Glass Replacement Tank

So, as you can deduce, Kanger managed to weave the RBA section into the sub-ohm capable clearomizer design once again, in a smaller, far more functional, package. Let's go over everything now!

Packaging

While I do not have a lot to say here, I would like to start by saying the Subtank Mini is packaged incredibly well. The box is very nice and heavy, with the tank itself resting within a plush liner. Underneath the plush liner you will find the included RBA base, the extra coil, tools, and spare cotton.

It is one of the nicer packagings I've seen, and while not exactly important, it feels necessary to let it be known that it is offered as a premium device, and it certainly feels so.

Build Quality

The Subtank Mini is built almost as well as it performs! The tank itself, despite being 'mini', feels quite hefty. I'd like to say it's full stainless this time, but I've yet to take a dremel to the device, however I am almost positive it is, as it is far heavier than brass.

The tank itself resembles the original, with the red o-rings remaining clearly visible. Right off the bat, however, are a few noticeable differences

  • One, the tank no longer has screws on top, as the RBA section now threads into the base, exactly as the coil does. A HUGE plus, as switching between the coil and RBA deck on the original was a gigantic pain in the ass.
  • Instead of three holes, the Subtank Mini now boasts a cyclops style airflow. It is not a substantial increase in airflow, but it is marginally airier, which is a plus in my book.
  • The drip tip is slightly wider, with a smaller profile.
  • The device is now 22mm, allowing it to sit flush on a wide variety of devices.
  • The coil insulators are now able to withstand a higher temperature, as the originals were prone to melting when dry fired for mere seconds, or during daily use.
  • The RBA section is much, much better this time around. It features two screws, and the top cap is knurled, allowing it to easily thread off the device. The deck is noticeably wider, and lacks the flimsy feeling of the original.

Suffice to say, these are extremely well welcomed improvements. I'm a huge fan of the RBA section, which I'll get to now...

Performance

The Subtank Mini performs just as well as the original, with the bonus of a now completely functional RBA deck.

In the clearomizer setting, with the 0.5ohm coils, expect to sit at around 22 watts. It's a very enjoyable experience, with moderate sized clouds, and exceptionally well pronounced flavor, thanks to the organic cotton coils. When paired with a 30w device, it is one of my go-to setups. In fact, the Subtank Mini and iStick 30w never leave my car! I'm able to vape comfortably on the road, with the flavor I expect from a dripper, and a similar experience in vapor production - though obviously less pronounced.

I personally prefer the 1.2ohm coils, because for some reason, they seem to be able to take a bit more power. I can get them upwards to 28.5w before I start getting dry hits, however, with 60/40 juice, it's a wonderful combination of flavor and far superior vapor production compared to the 0.5ohm option.

My favorite thing about the mini, however, is the RBA deck. It is now completely functional, with a far better design. With the position of the screws and the coil in relation to the deck, building is easier, and dry hits are a thing of the past. It is no longer a chore to wick the device, and I've got it upwards to 50w with lower-ohm builds. It does have a bit of trouble keeping up with 100% VG juice, but than again, most RTA's on the market do. With a few primer puffs, however, I'm able to get quite a few hits off it at a higher wattage before I get a dry hit.

I'm a huge, huge fan of the revision of the RBA section, as it now far easier to not only install it, but to actually get into the deck. The original was quite flimsy and cheap, and mine actually separated from the base - no device will read the RBA portion now, a common problem. I've also heard of it cross threading, something I no longer have to worry about, because the new and improved deck features a knurled top cap that is removed from the actual deck, allowing the outer cap to be removed. The threads are buttery smooth, and it no longer feels like a cheap piece of metal.

The overall experience is a welcome addition to the growing line of sub-ohm capable clearomizers, and I've got to say, it is one of the finest Kanger offerings yet.

Overall, the subtank mini  greatly capitalizes on the original, becoming more than the sum of it's parts, and honestly a refined version that should have been the original. It's relatively affordable at only 32.99, and in my opinion, should be in everyone's arsenal. Get yours today at www.mtbakervapor.com using coupon code VAPOCALYPTIC for 10% off.

MtBaker E-Juice Review

Flavor: Guabanan Berry is an infusion of guava, bananas, and berries. This decidedly fruity offering is sure to entice those who prefer sweeter tasting juice, and much to my approval, it is definitively so. The flavors, while not inherently complex on their own, blend together well, forming a fruity, sweet, tasty infusion of tropical goodness. It’s a very light juice, with no particular flavor taking precedence – I detect equal parts banana, berry, and guava, with a slight emphasis on the tangy, crisp guava notes. All things considered, it is a delightfully light, flavorful vape, sure to appease those looking for a tasty tropical sensation.
Rating: 5/5, a great mix of classic staples. Easy on coils as well, this juice is clear.

Flavor: This flavor is a bit of complex creation – out of the mail, I cannot sugarcoat it – it is not a very good juice. The mix is rather intricate, and definitely has to steep in order to flesh out the individual flavor notes. So, what did I do? I shelved it for a good two weeks, with ultra-sonic bathes here and there, til the bottle permeated with the familiar scent of delicious coffee cake. After giving it an ample amount of time to steep, I’ve got to say… I devoured this bottle. The coffee note is very, very subtle; in fact, the juice tastes more along the lines of the top layer of the cake. Crispy cinnamon with hints of brown sugar and creamy cake batter. For you dessert junkies out there, you can’t pass on this juice. Heed the warnings and steep it because it was not pleasant straight out of the box. Definitely a juice I plan on revisiting in the future.
Rating: 4/5. A tasty treat for dessert junkies, however, it does require a relatively long amount of time to age to its desired perfection.

Flavor: A bold emission, removing the mint from the staple 'Thug Juice', this reincarnation aptly named Hug Juice is twist - berry and watermelon, sans menthol. I personally was never a fan of Thug Juice, so I was a bit excited to get my hands on this. Unfortunately, however, the mix somewhat faltered...perhaps I got a bum brew, or the mint really rounds out the flavor complexity, but it suffered from the perfumey, artificial taste that has a tendency to plague some liquids. I gave it an ample amount of time to steep, and sadly, it did not come to fruition, remaining bitter sweet, and artificial. I would like to note, however, a friend purchased the juice prior to this review, and I was able to try it. It tasted a bit better than the mix I received, with a crisp berry taste, and a feint watermelon note on the exhale.
Rating2/5. It seems to be hit or miss, but I know the liquid has the potential to be at least vapeable, if not enjoyable to some.

Flavor: Constable hit this one out of the park, I'll say that much. CCC, as I'd like to call it, blends sweet sugar cookies with a hint of cream and coconut into a wonderfully enticing liquid. I'm a big dessert junkie, so I had a hunch this would be the best of the bunch ha-ha-ha. In all seriousness, however, I was right - this was definitely my favorite mixture. With just the right blend of coconut and sugar cookie, this juice was a win across all fronts in my book. It's light yet flavorful, crisp yet with a right amount of depth. The inhale is were the sugar cookie notes shine, with the exhale permeating coconut and a hint of sweet cream. It's another, if I could, I'd drink it type of juice.
Rating: 5/5, a sure fire way to appease you dessert junkies!

Flavor: The ever famous Hawk Sauce went through a re-invigoration itself, if you will, similar to what we saw with Hug Juice. Thawed Sauce is a re-imagining of sorts, omitting the menthol from the uber popular berry tart liquid. To be honest, I'm a fan. The menthol really made the juice what it was, but surprisingly, it's omission still leaves behind a solid, enjoyable liquid. It's everything you'd expect from a bottle of Hawk, minus the menthol - tart and succulent, flavorful berry tastes run rampant throughout the bottle, ensuring a pleasant experience all around. It's fairly light, good to go out of the mail box, and won't wreck your coils. If you're on the market for a somewhat sour, semi-sweet berry vape, look no further than Thawed Sauce.
Rating4/5, a decidedly solid berry vape for all you fruit fans out there.

Flavor: RY4 blends are among the elite of the elite in the vape world, one of the few juices around since day one. This particular mixture is, to date, my absolute favorite offering. The extroadinarily robust, crisp tobacco taste blends exceptionally well with hints of vanilla and caramel, leading to an industry standard that can still stand the test of time. At this point in my tenure, I stay away from any and all tobacco liquids, as I am completely content leaving the taste, as well as the idea of tobacco, in the past. I however, cannot shy away from a bottle of Ruyan 4 by MtBakerVapor. It's just one damn fine juice, and for all those chasing that robust flavorful tobacco taste with just the right amount of something sweet, Ruyan 4 is sure to please everybody out there. Just an all around fantastic juice, even for people like me, who could sleep peacefully knowing RY4 of all kinds disappeared.
Rating4/5, a decidedly solid berry vape for all you fruit fans out there.

Flavor: Before I start, I'd like to point out that I have yet to find a vapeable cherry juice. I'm not sure if the flavoring just does not transition well into a juice, or if we just lack a proper flavor, but this is not a juice I enjoyed. Out of the mail, it was bitter, harsh, and overly currant - not a fan, so I threw it in my ultrasonic over the course of two weeks, and tried again. After some time to steep, the mixture mellowed out, and I was able to taste the citrus blend, but the cherry was just overpowering in a very bad way. It tastes like a bitter cough syrup, and I was not able to enjoy it in any setup. For what it is worth, a co-worker enjoyed it, but to each their own.
Rating1/5. MtBaker are experimenting with new juices, so I won't hold it against them, but this just is not up to standard.

Flavor: An infusion of berry and sweet candy in an attempt to capture the juicy goodness of taffy, I've got to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I personally don't care for candy vapes, or fruit for that matter - while I will never shy away from giving proper dues, I'm simply far more interested in the world of desserts...if you haven't got that yet. Wacky Taffy, however, is a delightful surprise, offering a very sweet, berry vape, that I could honestly use all day long. I noticed no soapiness, no perfume taste, nothing to complain about - it's just one groovy, simple juice. I'm a big fan, if you're looking for an awesomely sweet berry juice, pick up a bottle of Wacky Taffy, you won't be disappointed.
Rating: 5/5, a very nice surprise, one of the best juices I've had from MtBaker.
